Cymbalta (Duloxetine)
Description
Cymbalta is used to treat depression.
Cymbalta belongs to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs), which work by increasing the activity of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain.
Usage
Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is used for treating mental depression, generalized anxiety disorder; it is also used for pain caused by nerve damage associated with diabetes; to treat a condition called fibromyalgia (muscle pain and stiffness).
Dosage and Administration
Cymbalta (delayed-release capsules) should be taken orally with or without a food on regular schedule.
Depression:
The recommended adult oral dose is 40 mg once a day (given as 20 mg twice a day) to 60 mg a day (given either once a day or as 30 mg twice a day).
Fibromyalgia:
The recommended adult oral dose is 60 mg once a day. Some patients may start at 30 mg once a day for one week before increasing the dose to 60 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase your dose if needed. However, the dose usually is not more than 120 mg a day.
